Who We Are
The Greens are a worldwide movement of environmentalists and progressives working to create a more free, democratic and just society. There are Green parties in almost every country throughout the world. In the United States, Greens hold office in town councils, school boards, city mayors and committees and numerous other positions.
The Green Party of Allegheny County is a local of the Green Party of Pennsylvania and the Green Party of the United States.
The GPAC is one of Pittsburgh's largest and most active progressive organizations. We hold regular General Assembly meetings where we discuss and plan support for progressive action as well as running candidates for local, state and federal offices. GPAC members take part in protests and meetings throughout Allegheny County, fighting for the Green vision of a peaceful and more democratic America.
As Greens, we support environmentalism, social justice, clean elections, democracy and respect for diversity, peace and nonviolence.
Our platform can be summarized by our Ten Key Values:
- Grassroots Democracy
- Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
- Ecological Wisdom
- Non-violence
- Decentralization
- Community-Based Economics and Economic Justice
- Feminism and Gender Equity
- Respect for Diversity
- Personal and Global Responsibility
- Future Focus and Sustainability
